MRS Meeting Report: Nov. 23, 2003

Law, Rita Lesniak, Frank O'Connor, Clarence Rhodes, Deborah Rumery, and Wilma Sarna
I. In Reference to the By Laws of the Maine Rose Society, as
revised in 1997, the following Officers and Directors were elected.
II. Rose Bowl
- Frank O’Connor will put together the Rose Bowl for January.
- Jerry Cinnamon will contribute an article on Japanese
Beetles.
III. Rose Show
Vaughn Hardesty will contact a shopping mall to explore the possibility of holding a rose show demonstration in the third week of June. He will obtain relevant information and report back to the Society.
IV. Plant Sale
- Committee: Chair Joan Gotlibson, Kay Buffum, Sari Hou, Deb Rumery, and
Clarence Rhodes.
- The plant sale will take place in conjunction with the
Master Gardners the weekend after Mother’s Day.
- Roses will be delivered to Clarence Rhode’s House.
V. People, Places, and Plants Flower Show
Stephen Law will attend the 10 days of the flower show. This is a
change from the 4 days of last year. The Society will receive 4 passes,
need to man the booth full time, have liability insurance of 1 million
dollars that specifies that it protects Scarboro Downs and People,
Places, and Plants, a Tax ID is required and available from the State
of Maine.
The Society spent $175 on handouts last year. Deborah will assist with
handouts cooperating with the Mid-Maine Rose Society. Ed Bergen, Roger and Joan Gotlibson, Sari and Jerry Cinnamon and others volunteered to assist Steve at the flower show.
VI. Other
- Art Emmons, President of the ARS Yankee District, has
indicated that dues paying members of local societies within the Yankee
District will receive a copy of their newsletter.
- Clarence Rhodes indicated that local societies appoint a
member to serve on the district consulting Rosarian board, as well as
the district prize and award committee.
