MRS Meeting Report: Nov. 11, 2001![]()
Maine Rose Society, Annual Business MeetingNovember 11, 2001
At that time, a motion was made that one vote be cast to elect the slate of officers as presented with Kay Buffum replacing Sari Hou as the Director. It was seconded and unanimously voted to pass. After much discussion, it was decided that there would be no meting in December and January. It was so moved, seconded and passed. Programs for the rest of the year were discussed.
Some program suggestions were: 1)Have the Yankee District Director come and talk to us about Rose Society happenings., 2) Invite an expert in photography to visit and explain rose bloom photography. It was Moved and seconded to have our Plant Sale independent of the Master Gardeners’ plant sale. The motion was amended to include our NON-OBJECTION to having it the same day as the Master Gardeners’ plant sale. Clarence Rhodes volunteered (maybe persuaded is more accurate) to order the rose bushed for the plant sale. We will order 100 of the hy-bred teas/floribunda etc. Fifty (total) hardy, modern shrubs and/or old garden roses will be selected by someone else. It was moved and seconded not to hold a Rose Show in 2002. After a very lengthy discussion, the motion failed to pass. Another motion was made and seconded to hold the show as usual. It passed. Home Depot Stores are asking for Consulting Rosarians to come and talk about roses at their participating stores. (Not all Home Depot Stores are included.) Clarence Rhodes will be at the Portland Store at times. Marten and Lilyan Brower will also be asked if they would like to take part. It was moved, seconded and passed to have a booth at the Portland Flower Show this year. Steve Law was drafted to handle it because of his past experience with the PFS. It was decided to try having our meetings on Saturday for at least a couple of times to see if more people could attend. Refreshments were served and the meeting adjoined about 3:00 PM. In the absence of the Secretary, submitted by Elaine Law.
