MAINE ROSE SOCIETY GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Sunday, June 10, 2001 The Barron Center 1:00 p.m. Portland, Maine Minutes Officers Present: President Frank O’Connor, Secretary Wilma Sarna, Treasurer Claire Homan, Board Members, , Margaret Edwards, Joan Gotlibson, Merle Bacastow Officers Absent:, Vice President Vaughn Hardesty , Board Member Ralph Carpenter, , Wendy Kemp, Steve Law The meeting was brought to order by President O’Connor. He asked Clarence Rhodes to demonstrate the proper method of preparing roses to their best advantage as a show entry. Clarence demonstrated pre-show collecting, hydrating, storing, proper grooming and the determination of a show quality rose. He encouraged everyone, especially the novice, to bring entries to the show. In order to encourage the novice, it was suggested that the qualifications for a Novice be that of “one who has not won a blue ribbon at a show”. To further encourage novice entries, Clarence will prepare four Novice awards of a potted rose plus 1.5 pounds of Magnum Grow. It was suggested that a post-show meeting be held to critique the show while it is still fresh in the mind. Clarence Rhodes, Margaret Edwards and Clare Homan provided refreshments.
