Treasurer Claire Homan distributed a summary of the 2000 budget to all members present.

The Rose Purchasing Committee distributed a list of roses that have been ordered for the Rose Sale in May.

The meeting was brought to order by President O’Connor who asked Dr. Bacastow to introduce his friend and the guest speaker, Dr. Rick Churchill.  Dr. Churchill is Associate Editor of People, Places and Plants magazine.  The subject of Dr. Churchill’s talk was “Soil is Never a Dirty Word”.  He spoke about the make-up of soil, how to increase organic material in the soil and how plants are believed to take up minerals from the soil.  The hour passed too quickly and Dr. Churchill was thanked and invited to return at another time.
