Maine Rose Society, January 8, 2006: The Barron Center, Portland, Maine Present: Ed Bergen, Charlee Curtis, Sherman Curtis, Margaret Edwards, Joan Gotlibson, Roger Gotlibson, Claire Homan, Clarence Rhodes, Deborah Rumery, Aurelia Scott, Marion Stevens President Joan Gotlibson opened the meeting at 1:15 p.m. Approval of December meeting minutes: Moved by Aurelia Scott, seconded by Deb Rumery, approved unanimously. Old business: Plant Sale: Clarence is checking with Tanya Heskett of Master Gardeners regarding 2006 date and MRS participation with Master Gardeners. Discussion ensued with the group deciding we will repot plants arriving in 1-gallon pots in order to give those plants more time to grow. Intention now is to charge $17 per plant. Portland Flower Show: Charlee noted that MMRS will not be participating in 2006. Following discussion about poor location for non-profits, lack of traffic, and costs, Clarence made the motion that MRS decline participation in 2006; Aurelia seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Deb will send a letter to Joanna Sprague. Rose Exhibition: Deb indicated O’Donal’s is interested in having us back. Aurelia suggested we also contact Skillins in Falmouth for additional out-reach opportunities. Clarence volunteered to contact Skillins. 2006 Meetings/Programs: The following schedule was developed based on discussion: February: Charlee to contact Bob Bangs of Windswept Gardens (Bangor) and/or David Emery as potential speakers. March: Clarence will be seeing Frank Bernadella and John Mattia this week at MANTS and will ask if either is willing to present a program April: Pruning party will now be a “Pot ‘em Up” party for May sale May: Plant Sale, plus pre-sale demo/event at Skillins if they’re interested June: Demo/presentation at O’Donal’s July: Garden tour at Gotlibson’s
New Business: Annual Barron Center contribution: At Claire’s request, the group discussed whether to continue this practice. Charlee motioned, Margaret seconded, vote was unanimous to continue. Dues: Treasurer Claire Homan noted that 2006 dues are now due. Refreshments for February meeting: Aurelia and Deb will provide
