MAINE ROSE SOCIETY GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Sunday, August 12, 2001 The home of Lilyan and Martin Brower 1:00 p.m. Bailey Island, Maine Minutes Officers Present: President Frank O’Connor, Vice President Vaughn Hardesty, Secretary Wilma Sarna, , Board Members, Merle Bacastow, Wendy Kemp Officers Absent:, Treasurer Claire Homan, Board Member Ralph Carpenter, Margaret Edwards, Joan Gotlibson, Steve Law An informal meeting was held at the home of Lilyan and Martin Brower, Eldon Point Road, on Bailey Island, Maine. Despite a brief shower at the planned time of arrival, a nice crowd gathered to tour the gardens. Martin discussed his method of winterizing the tea roses with an insulating blanket and displayed a huge roll for inspection. He also talked about his watering and fertilizing practices. When the rain stopped, everyone went out to view the gardens filled with many roses and a large variety of other flowers and plants. Clarence Rhodes had brought along his hand-made spraying system and demonstrated this, also. Lilyan provided a beautiful spread of cakes, pie and home-grown blueberries with whipped cream. There was a raffle of a rose, left over from the Rose Sale in May, which Clarence had potted-up and cared for at his home. The lucky winner was Wilma Sarna. Everyone had a great time and we thank the Browers for their hospitality. Respectfully submitted, Wilma Sarna, Secretary
