the meeting at 1:05 p.m.
Old Business:
Jerry briefly reported on events in March, a busy month
for MRS. The Portland Flower Show was
generally considered a positive. The Longfellow
Gardens event held with Mid-Maine
Rose Society provided an opportunity for members of both societies to get
together. The Yankee District held their
Spring meeting, which Jerry and Sari as well as others attended. Jerry also distributed copies of the
Consulting Rosarians annual report.
New Business:
Membership Committee: Claire Homan and Sari Hou reported that as of
4/10, the Society has 53 members.
Plant Sale Committee: Chair Joan Gotlibson reported that as of 4/10,
84 out of 300 roses had been reserved.
Roses will be sold at the May 21 sale for $14.00 - $17.00.
Rose Demonstration Report: On behalf of
Chairperson Vaughn Hardesty, Deb Rumery reported that O’Donal’s Nursery agreed
to host our June 25 event. Following
Jerry’s calls for additional committee volunteers, Joan and Ed Bergen have
joined Vaughn, Deb, and Jerry on the committee.
Claire and Sari unveiled a beautiful new MRS banner
created by Charlee Curtis, who also created many of the striking backdrops and
posters for the Society’s booth at the plant show.
Meeting Program
Brenda and Wayne Peterson presented “Growing Beautiful
Hardy Roses for Maine,” which included a PowerPoint
presentation and “tour” of their extensive gardens and handouts for successful
selecting, growing, and caring for roses in Maine’s
climate.
Following a general discussion and refreshments, the
meeting adjourned at approximately 3:30 p.m.
