Rose Show A rose show committee was established to organize the
2003 rose show. This committee consists of Frank O’ Connor, Clarence, Rhodes,
Sari Hou, Jerry Cinnamon. The committee will be called to order by Frank O’
Connor. The Rose Show should be advertised at the end of March by the rose show
committee with Margaret and Clair taking charge of advertising. Plant A plant sale committee was established to organize the
plant sale. The committee consists of Frank O’ Connor, Joan Gotlibson, Rita
Lesinak. Discussion centered on ordering roses in January from
Roseland in order to get desired cultivars, and to perhaps hold the plant sale
at the Farmer’s Market in Dearing Oakes. Roses would be delivered during the third week in
April and need pruning, spraying, and fertilizing, as field pruned roses are
simply cut off at uniform height by the grower, and do not follow pruning
methods best suited to individual plants. Suggestions were made that the May
meeting be used to prune and prepare up to 150 rose plants for the sale. This
would both be a work party and an educational workshop to teach proper pruning
methods. The Portland Flower Show is March 5-9th.
Non-profit organizations are allocated 1600 ft square with one table per group.
Discussion centered on having a joint display with the Mid-Maine Rose Society.
This would allow two tables and adjoining floor space for the two groups of
rosarians. Additional discussion, centered on providing calling cards for both
the web site, as was done last year on an experimental basis, and for the Rose
Show that would be new. Clarence Rhodes
or other members may be able to provide rose plants forced to bloom under
greenhouse conditions for the show. Monthly Meeting Schedule Dec – no meeting January and/or February
