Here it is Oct. and our roses are still blooming, do I just let them bloom, or is there something that I should do to protect them? |
| 10/28/04 Yes, the warm weather has encouraged our roses to bloom. This is normal. Do not cut off the bloom and the rose will begin it winterization process. If you cut the bloom off, it will try to bloom again. We are all thinking of winterization, but I am waiting for hard frost, and if possible for the ground to freeze before mounding, etc. This will prevent any moles or other digging creatures present from spending the winter making a home among your plant roots and feeding on them. There is usually a short window between the ground freezing and the first snow, so you do have to be ready to act quickly if you wait this long.
