MRS FAQs Post: November 21, 2004

Jay Ferrill, November 21, 2004

I recently bought a house that has beach roses lining the driveway. I would like to know if I should do anything to them before winter, or if it is to late in the season?

Jay,
The beach rose (Rose Rugosa) should be fine this winter without any protection. If they did need protection this would be an ideal time to do it, as they are now dormant and ready to sleep. I am putting a bit of compost on mine for slow fertilizing purposes for next year, but in general Rosa Rugosa does not need care other than pruning to the shape that you desire.
