MRS FAQs Post: June 23, 2005

Norine Kuhn, June 23, 2005

Hi-

We visited Martha's Vineyard last summer and I fell in love with the white beach roses that were everywhere!

I have a couple of questions: First of all, we live in central Illinois and I was wondering if these (Rosa Rugosa, I believe) would be hardy here? and secondly, I was wondering if you knew where I could purchase a couple of the white bushes?

I can still smell the captivating fragrance!

Thanks for your help!

Lori,

These are very hardy plants. Yes they will grow most anywhere. You can purchase them in nurseries throughout New England, order them bare root for spring shipping or even take cuttings and start them yourself. If you want to find online nurseries check out the Maine Rose Society for Links or just use a search engine and type in something such as rose nursery.
