Dick Gross, July 12, 2005 I have a question, There is in northeast Mass and southern NH wild bush rose with small white fragrant blooms that grow everywhere.I am not talking about r.rugosas. Do you know this plant? I live in Spring Hill,Florida and have brought a slip of this plant for my garden. I also have R. Rugosa both red and white beach roses growing here for the last 3 years, they bloom pretty well but do not like the heat too much. The blooms only last a day or so, Thanks for your time! Dick Gross

| 7/13/05 Dick, I do not know for sure but Rosa Carolina, also called the Pasture Rose, is one good candidate. This is a species roses. There are a number of relatively common species roses that grow in New England. You can look up species roses in a rose book in your local book store. They are usually at the start of the book. You can also go to http://www.helpmefind.com and search under roses.

Dick Gross, July 13, 2005 Hi Jerry, I believe I have found it.This rose is a multiflora that was planted to curtail soil erosion,In places it has become an invasive. Here in Florida I get home sick for New England as you could guess,so I planted beach roses(slips of which I took from Nubble Light House in York Beach).3 years ago and they are doing well. The blooms do not last as long due to hot sun here, but I get a couple of days from them.Very fragrant. Thanks for getting back to me.I planted the little slip of the multiflora and after I hardened it off,it seems to be doing well.I will keep you posted as to how well. Thank You Again! Jerry

| 7/13/05 You are right, I did not focus on the Multiflora. Most places it is considered invasive and you can find it around pastures here and along highways. It has been in bloom for several weeks in Maine now.

| 7/13/05 A possible candidate is the Cherokee Rose or r. Laevigata. It is a wild rose with 5 pink petals.
