I'm curious to know which is the most commonly used fertilizer for roses here in Maine. Last year, I used a prepared rose fertilizer that I bought at Home Depot which I mixed in with my existing soil. It seemed to work well as I had a wonderful first bloom of my David Austin roses. Here's the link: http://homepage.mac.com/hstupno/Albums/PhotoAlbum39.html. But, my second bloom wasn't nearly as prolific and we don't have a compost bin as of yet, so I'm curious what I should be using to ammend into my soil this spring specifically for roses.

Thank so much. Is it spring yet???

Hello Heidi,

Above is a link to a very interesting company. I found it helpful in learning what you have to have in your soil to help any plant to grow to it's full potential, and to allow the fertilizers you may choose to use to get to your plant and do it's job. I heard about this company on the Sunday morning radio program The Garden Hotline with Ralph Snodsmith. It is broadcast from NYC from 8-10 a.m., and carried thru Portland radio station WGAN, 56 on the am dial The founder of this company was a guest on Ralph's show a few weeks ago. I sent for information on the products and will have this information at our next Maine Rose Society meeting on February 13th at 1:00 at the Baron Center in Portland. If possible, please join us, we would love to have you there. We will have a demonstration on how to grow roses from seeds, which is a really fun thing to do. Like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you do not know what you have till it blooms! (or you bite into the chocolate)

I hope you find this information interesting, it does bring a whole new light to gardening. Jerry Cinnamon and Clarence Rhodes did a presentation at a meeting last year on this subject and everyone found it very enlightening..........and interesting.

Hope to see you on the 13th,

Joan Gotlibson
