Pamela Simons, July 15, 2005

I live in Vancouver Canada and bought a rose that looks like a floribunda. It has orange centered buds with yellow frilled petals on the outside. As the flowers mature they loose some of the orange colour. What is a complete surprise is that the other day I noticed some of the buds and flowers are yellow with white frilled edges. I have tried to find out what the rose is called.I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping you could help me.I have gone onto numerous sites on the internet and poured through numerous rose books. It wasn't an expensive rose. It has lots of flowers and buds. Thank you

Pamela

Pamela:
We will help you identify the rose. We have several members who are very good at doing this. If we can not identify for you, we will ask other rosians to identify it for "you" and "us".
Thank You!

Dear Sari,
Thank you for your very kind response. I have taken a picture of the rose but I'm not happy with the results, I don't think it's clear enough. I got a new roll of film and I've taken some more pictures today. As soon as I have completed the roll I'll take it in and get a CD. Hope you're getting some nice weather in Maine. I'll be in touch, thanks again.

Pamela:
Don't forget to get some close-ups. By the way, the whole bush, the leaves and prickles also count too. Good luck in taking the images! Feel free to send as many images as you want to me and let us give it a good identification. You must love that rose very much. Good for you!

Hi Sari,
I finally got some pictures which I hope are clear enough. Thanks for your patience. Hope these are o.k.

Dear Pamela:
My first impression is that it is Honey Perfume. I also sent your images to our members as well as our rosairans that I know. If I hear anything from them, I will let you know.

Thanks Sari,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you're help, we are zone 8 here and it's a great place to grow anything. My husband carves wooden signs to put in front of the roses for identification. I will get him to do one for Honey Perfume and send you a picture. If you ever come this way please call me and i'll take you to lunch and show you the gardens around here. I hope you have a great week.

I am no longer getting rose catalogs but am guessing it is either a recent introduction or an old standard since that is what is usually sold at garden centers. It does look like a florabunda. Might help to know the fragrance and the name of the wholesaler that sells to the place where she bought this beautiful rose. (My kinda color) I looked at a couple of wholesaler web sites but they only have pictures of some of their roses. The following is similar but I don't think it's an exact match. http://www.jproses.com/code_varieties/product.cfm?product_id=265&PLIST=177,25,330,278,279,261,264,311,265,281,27,283,267,331,28,214,215,312,287,29,333,289,182,183,232,335,310,190,192,194,179,198,200,180,186,188,203

Hello - I think this rose is "Amber Queen" a floribunda bred by Harkness in 1988 and offered through Edmunds Roses. She can go to edmundsroses.com.

My sister has found another light yellow rose that looks similar. Could this be the yellow rose we were looking for? http://www.edmundsroses.com/cgi-bin/browse.cgi?page=item&cat=10&item=6
