Jim waters, April 24, 2005 I purchased a Margaret Chase Smith rose bush through the mail 4-5 years ago. Unfortunately we had a terrible drought and it didn't last the season. I've been trying to locate another one with out luck. I was hoping one of your members might know where I could purchase one. Although we do live 30 miles south of Washington DC my wife does have family scattered through out R I, Mass, And Maine, and we usually come up every summer for vacation. If any of your members know of, or could steer me in the right direction I would be most grateful. Thank you, Jim waters |
| 4/25/05 Dear Jim, I have seen the "potted" Sub-Zero Roses in Reny's. They are usually the Brownell series roses, and Margaret Chase Smith is usually in the selection. I have not looked at them by name this year, just saw them as I was passing by. If you have family near a Reny's store, it would be worth checking in on them. Four Season's Nursery has a MCS in their catalog for $5.95. Their website is www.4seasonsnurseries.com. In fact they carry 6 of Dr. Brownell's roses, Lily Pons, Victory, Helen Hayes, Maria Stern, Arctic Flame and the MCS. Good luck on getting your rose. It would be helpful if your area is very dry to use some of the water absorbing crystals such as Water Sorb in your planting hole. I have found this to be extremly helpful both in the ground and in pots.

| 4/25/05 Thank you for your help. Now that I have another name to search for the rose perhaps I'll have better luck. If I'm lucky and persistent I might convince a few of the growers down here in Maryland to raise them. It will be wonderful to once again watch those large beautiful blossoms unfold from such a tiny bud, and enjoy that sweet wonderful fragrance. Thank you so much!
