MRS FAQs Post: April 12, 2005

Charlee Curtis, April 12, 2005

I went to Lowes in Auburn last Saturday & found a bag rose named Mr. Lincoln, a rugosa-not Mister Lincoln the tea rose. I have looked @ everyrose.com & helpme find.com. Have either of you two heard of this rose? I bought it because I love Mister Lincoln the tea. And also becausea rugosa has got to be hardy.

Here is the bag's description:
vigorous, upright, easy to grow rose with leathery green leaves. Large, double bright crimson flowers bloom recurrently. Everblooming Hybrid Rugosa Rose. It has a picture on it that looks kind of sort of like "Champlain" but it's not a good picture. It is definately not a hybrid tea in the picture. This is one of life's little mysteries that will be solved later this summer.

OK Charlee, I have it posted on the Garden Web rose forum. All replys will be emailed to me, we should see if anyone has ever heard of the Mr. Lincoln Rugosa rose real soon. I checked in my ARS Book for Selecting Roses and it is not in there, just the HT. BUT maybe it is not a rose registered with the ARS. It could be a European or Canadian unregistered rose. What does the picture look like? Is it a HT looking rugosa.......wow that is hard to imagine,,,,if not impossible! Maybe it is like the YELLOW climbing America I saw at Big Lots!!
